    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will lead and manage the avionics hardware electronics design team responsible for definition, development, detailed design, and qualification of board and box-level embedded electronic designs across multiple flight vehicles.  You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of primary flight control computers, flight instrumentation systems, power distribution and control systems, sensors, RF, network and communication systems, and flight safety systems.


    You will maintain the company standards, processes, and methods for New Shepard avionics electronic design development and work with the team to evaluate system solutions to maximize performance and commonality across multiple flight vehicles.  You will develop comparative metrics and assess potential concepts while considering manufacturability, operability, performance and recurring cost.  You will prioritize the work to be performed by the team and focus the team to complete detailed designs on schedule to meet current and future program needs. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.


    • Responsible for employee life cycle including performance management, task/project management, training and provide tools for career development for the team’s members
    • Develop standards, processes, and methods for the New Shepard Avionics Hardware Electronics Design team
    • Work with team leads and project managers to prioritize design and analysis tasks
    • Lead, mentor and coach team members
    • Guide high-level avionics hardware functional requirement derivation and technology development
    • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for programs during reviews and failure investigations
    • Recruit new avionics hardware engineers to the team
    • As required, the group manager may also provide direct technical support to program as an individual contributor


    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or equivalent, and 8+ years’ industry experience in avionics hardware development, integration, test, and operations across subsystem, element, and system levels
    • 3+ years’ experience as a direct personnel manager of at least a team of 5 design engineers
    • Direct hands-on experience with analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding and general board layout principles
    • Direct hands-on experience developing, designing, building, testing and debugging complex aerospace or commercial electronic assemblies (designing custom cards and integrating COTS hardware); including product functional, acceptance and environmental qualification testing
    • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


    • Master's Degree (M.S.) or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field and 10+ years’ industry experience in avionics hardware development
    • 5+ years’ experience as a direct personnel manager of at least a team of 5 design engineers
    • Extensive embedded electronics design development and integrated test experience for spacecraft/launch vehicles; including experience meeting MIL-STD-461 for EMI/EMC requirements
    • Demonstrated expertise designing high-reliability, safety-critical, DAL A, Class 3 board assemblies; including familiarity with IPC 6xx and NASA-STD-8739.n (or similar) standards
    • Proficiency using Cadence OrCAD / Allegro (or similar tools) to design complex aerospace boards; and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors
    • Exposure to development of high-reliability, harsh environment flight avionics hardware intended for reusable flight vehicle environments; including familiarity with DO-160 or MIL-STD-810G
    • Experience with human spaceflight or high performance aircraft system design
    • Knowledge of systems engineering and development assurance practices; including familiarity with ARP4754A and DO-254
    • Experience in a waterfall and AGILE development framework
