  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will lead a team to develop and operate the New Shepard Hardware-in-the-Loop integration facility. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight.


    • Lead a team of experienced HIL engineers across hardware and software disciplines, including definition, design, implementation, operations and maintenance.
    • Collaborate in definition of the architecture for new HILs including the facility requirements, electrical and mechanical interfaces, test plans, concept of operations, layouts, use-cases, and regression and verification tests.
    • Collaborate with software engineers to integrate hardware simulation and fault injection solutions with real-time vehicle simulations.
    • Support existing HIL platforms through the life of the New Shepard vehicles, including block upgrades and end of life updates.
    • Support the integration of flight avionics hardware, EGSE, operator consoles and analysis tooling necessary to verify the requirements and performance of avionics units under test.
    • Perform employee performance evaluations and also recruit/train new HIL engineers


    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field (equivalent experience may be substituted for degree)
    • 5+ years of software or hardware engineering experience
    • Experience working in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system integration labs (SIL)
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Demonstrated history of hands-on engineering troubleshooting, such as electronic lab test equipment
    • Ability to lead a team on rapid development programs
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


    • Experience in analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components and design, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout and grounding principles
    • Applied experience with hard real-time operating systems and embedded systems
    • Broad understanding of instrumentation, interfaces and sensors including DMMs, DAQ, Power Supplies, Oscilloscopes, DIO, GPIB, Serial-422, UDP, GigE, SPI, switch technologies and topologies, accelerometers, RTDs, thermocouples, and 4-20mA sensors
    • Experience leading a team of cross-discipline engineers
    • Experience with a Unix-like operating system (Linux, BSD, etc.) command-line interface and shell scripting
    • Experience with programming in Python.
    • Strong project management skills
