  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will support the design, development, and test of launch vehicle mechanical systems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, analysis, development and testing of launch vehicle mechanical systems.
    • Provide technical guidance for integration and general Liaison Engineering support.
    • Coach, mentor and technically assist junior engineers.
    • Support configuration development and trade studies.     
    • Definition of interfaces and controlling documents.                       
    • Develop system requirements, performing flow down, and verification.
    • Create 3-D models, detailed drawings, specifications and other documentation.
    • Create and maintain a detailed/prioritized schedule of activity and work with assigned team members to deliver designs on schedule and on budget.
    • Work with the configuration and assembly teams to properly prioritize procurement activities by identifying long lead procurements.
    • Oversee fabrication and assembly services; procure components and materials; and manage vendor/subcontractor performance.
    • Plan and conduct tests, and review data.
    • Maintaining and reporting on activity schedule, budget and technical status.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering.
    • 8+ years of recent experience designing aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle mechanical systems.
    • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software (CREO preferred).
    • Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    Desired

    • Experience managing vendor/subcontractor procurements
    • Experience in primary flight control actuator designs.
    • Experience in aerospace deployable devices deign such as doors, landing gear, or sensors.
    • Experience in hydraulic system component design or system architecture design.
    • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) kinematic mechanisms design or other mechanism analysis tools.
    • Experience in spacecraft separation system design.
    • Expertise with structural analysis codes: Nastran, ANSYS or similar.
    • Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware.
