  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate team of experts, you will be responsible for instrumentation, sensors, and measurement & test equipment for various rocket engine, spacecraft, and ground test systems, including the calibration of these devices. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of Blue Origin’s ability to develop, test and fly space vehicles and rocket engines through hands-on testing and real-time engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. 


    • Decompose and interpret system level engineering and quality system requirements for use in sensor and instrumentation engineering drawings, specifications, procedures and purchase orders
    • Perform calibration of sensors, instrumentation, and measurement & test equipment in a metrology lab environment
    • Perform acceptance testing in an environmental test lab environment
    • Troubleshoot sensor/instrumentation anomalies in a component test stand environment
    • Identify root cause failure mode using fault tree and fishbone methodologies, and formally document findings in engineering memos


    • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • 2+ years’ experience designing, testing, calibrating, and/or field servicing of sensors, instrumentation, or measurement & test equipment (or equivalent graduate program work)
    • Familiarity with the theory of operation of sensors for various measurement applications (pressure, temperature, displacement, force, acceleration, DC electrical, etc.)
    • Familiarity with selection and proper use of measurement and test equipment (torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, digital multi-meters, etc.)
    • Experience developing, operating and maintaining calibration and test lab equipment systems (pressure controllers, thermal baths/dry blocks, environmental chambers, shaker tables, torque wrench calibrators, etc.)
    • Experience with data anomaly review, sensor system troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in a lab or field-test environment
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


    • Experience with industry calibration standards (ANSI NCSL Z540.3, ISO/IEC 17025)
    • Experience with industry quality and configuration control system methodologies (AS9100, ISO:9001)
    • Experience operating equipment automated via LabView and PLCs
    • Experience developing software for the automation of equipment (Labview, C++, Java, Python, etc.)
