  • Overview

    As a part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for development of tooling, jigs and fixtures for use in the manufacturing and assembly of various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of manufacturing and tool engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. This position requires strong technical skills to support the development of tooling for the production team.

    Responsibilities

    • Conceptual design of tooling & fixtures for the manufacture, testing and assembly of flight hardware
    • Detailed design and analysis of jigs, fixtures and tooling equipment to support manufacturing, testing and assembly of structural and/or composite components
    • Conceptual and/or detailed design of tooling in support of large scale and precision assembly
    • Provide cost estimates as well as Vendor selection and management
    • Develop and manage tooling concepts to minimize production times
    • Support development of processes and procedures for manufacturing
    • Oversee equipment fabrication and provide support to production
    • Provide technical guidance and support for implementation of tooling & fixtures
    • Active involvement in functional checkouts and commissioning of equipment
    • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status
    • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings 

    Qualifications

    • B.S. degree in engineering with a background in fixture and tool development, commissioning, and maintenance
    • Experience with design, build and commissioning of tooling, jigs and fixtures in support of large scale and/or precision assemblies
    • Experience managing contractors during design, procurement and build cycles of tooling and related components
    • Experience in selection and implementation of tools and equipment to provide ease of manufacturing with the goal of streamlining production
    • Experience developing procedures for testing, checkout, commissioning and maintenance of fixtures/tooling
    • Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software (ProE and ANSYS preferred)  
    • Familiar with applicable ASME standards, such as ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41
    • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    Desired

    • Experience in HMI design and configuration of different types of tooling interfaces.
    • Experience with dynamic and modal analysis of structures and fixtures
    • Experience with PTC Creo / Windchill, ANSYS
    • Experience with aircraft, launch vehicle or spacecraft jigs & fixturing
