  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will collaborate directly with the Chief Design Engineer to work technical design details and process definition for current and future New Shepard spaceflight vehicles and ground systems. You will work on cross-subsystem, multi-disciplinary issues and designs where supplemental expertise and problem solving is required. You will have authority to inform and alter designs to achieve technical excellence and eliminate defects. You will have a mix of directly delegated work as well as the freedom to identify and follow areas of concern. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with multiple teams, and expanding your understanding of complex interconnected problems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


    • Lead failure root cause investigations and implementation of preventive actions
    • Lead identification, management and mitigation of technical risks
    • Support technology transfer and participate in collaborative relationships across Blue Origin
    • Provide guidance, direction, and feedback to managers, staff engineers, and leadership on highly complex challenges, resulting in critical impact to the development of the system
    • Coordinate and lead reviews of engineering process
    • Coordinate and lead reviews of technical designs


    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering
    • 5+ years working in a engineering environment with hardware development
    • Experience with three or more of the following specialties: propulsion; compressible system design and analysis; cryogenics; avionics; software development and verification; communications; navigation; software; guidance; control; autonomous operations; robotics; structures; additive manufacturing; materials testing; nondestructive testing; data science; thermal management; environmental control and life support systems;
    • Experience leading at least 1 multi-person development project spanning multiple engineering disciplines
    • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


    • Previous experience in applying research to relevant industry problems
    • Experience in working with flight hardware
    • Experience with human spaceflight
    • Experience in root cause analysis and various techniques
    • Knowledge in the use of FEA analysis tools
