  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be a system engineer of liquid propellant rocket engine systems including combustion devices, turbomachinery, valves, ancillary systems, and overall engine operations supporting the full system engineering life cycle from conceptual design through flight operations. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the design and verification of rocket engines. You will work with internal and external customers and stakeholders to identify requirements and verification plans. You will help balance the conflicting nature of requirements and verification scope with cost, schedule, resources and risk. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


    • Work with internal and external customers and stakeholders to create engine system specification and interface control documentation.
    • Perform requirements decomposition both from parent systems and for engine system components or subsystems
    • Primary owner for major engine system reviews, including: system requirements review, preliminary design review, critical design review, and functional/product verification review(s)
    • Primary owner for system safety, fault tolerance, hazardous system analysis and engine system-level Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
    • Primary owner for risk process, including: identification, assessment, tracking, mitigation, reporting and management
    • Support trade studies to evaluate design options.
    • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and opportunities.
    • Carry out systems engineering activities in accordance with standard practices, tailoring them where appropriate.
    • Contribute technical detail while fostering system-level connections.
    • Support tracking, evaluation and reporting on system metrics.
    • Contribute to, and utilize lessons learned database.


    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in appropriate engineering field, systems engineering or equivalent
    • Experience designing new liquid rocket engine systems or systems with high-pressure gas and cryogenic fluid systems, from conceptual design through activation; successfully meeting cost and schedule targets.
    • Knowledge of basic liquid rocket engine components, or equivalent, such as: combustion devices, turbomachinery, valves, purge systems, bleed/vent systems, structures, mechanisms, avionics, control, fluids, or thermal management.
    • Exhibit excellent judgement and be comfortable making high-quality and high-velocity decisions
    • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Exhibit ability to adapt and excel in changing, growing environment
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


    • 7+ years of engineering design or systems engineering
    • Liquid rocket engine experience in design, development, test or flight operations
    • Experience with one-or-more requirement management tools (e.g. DOORS, DOORS NG, Jama, Innoslate, Integrity, etc.)
    • Familiarity with version control (e.g. Git/Gitlab, Subversion, Windchill)
    • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
    • Experience with proposal development
