  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate, accomplished and rapidly evolving team of experts, you will be responsible for working closely with an engineering design and manufacturing team to support manufacturing efforts in the fabrication of composite structure used on human-rated orbital launch vehicles. This includes working with engineering to design for manufacturability, working with vendors for fabrication of hardware per engineering drawings and specifications, as well as continuously working to improve manufacturing processes. If you share our passions and vision, thrive in a dynamic startup environment, excel on integrated cross-functional teams, are experienced and skilled in several relevant technologies (even if perhaps not in the aerospace industry), continuously seek out opportunities to learn and improve, and enjoy occasional travel, then we would love to hear from you. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards affordable, safe, and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with 3rd party suppliers for the fabrication of composite structures on a human rated orbital launch vehicle including implementation of technical requirements and control of critical process parameters
    • Assist with transition from development to production, including qualification of vendors and acceptance of first articles
    • Support composites material and subscale panel testing and qualification efforts
    • Work with design and manufacturing integration to ensure product is acceptable across all stages of the process and through integration
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and write corrective actions to support build of composite structures by 3rd party vendors to engineering requirements
    • Implement continuous process improvements of the fabrication of composite structures to reduce cost, scrap rate, and/or increase reliability

    Qualifications

    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
    • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering or equivalent directly related years of service
    • 5+ years experience working in a product design or manufacturing environment.
    • Experience with fabrication of aerospace quality composite structures, including prepreg laminates, sandwich structures, and different curing processes
    • Familiarity with process control monitoring and root cause evaluation
    • Experience working with external suppliers
    • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
    • Strong written, personal, and computer skills. Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with engineering and outside vendors
    • Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
    • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends if/when necessary
    • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
    • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances

    • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight
