    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the identification or development, qualification, testing and implementation of materials, supporting design of rockets and engine parts. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


    • Work with design, analysis, and nondestructive test engineers to select materials, processes and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware
    • Research, identify or develop and qualify self-lubricating materials for demanding operational conditions unique to rocket propulsion
    • Research best processes to manufacture aerospace hardware with such materials
    • Define experimental plans for the qualification of materials to support rocket propulsion
    • Provide materials continuous support in tribology-related questions to customers
    • Provide manufacturing engineering and producibility support to design engineering   
    • Work with the materials and processes team on continuous improvements of materials, manufacturing processes, the authoring and implementation of standards


    • B.S. degree or higher in material science, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering with materials focus
    • 5+ year experience working in a research, design and/or manufacturing environment
    • Ability to operate metallographic lab equipment, perform analysis, and report results
    • Experience with the development of materials and process for tribology applications
    • Experience with self-lubricating materials in high speed environments
    • Experience with tribologist support and support to design engineers and analysts for bearing materials
    • Understanding of cryogenic effects on material wear and familiarity with standard wear test and their limitations
    • Experience developing plans for tribology mechanical testing
    • Experience developing and executing experiment plans, analyzing data and reporting results
    • Strong written and personal computer skills
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle large and small projects with a diversity of customers
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum


    • PhD in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with emphasis in Tribology and Materials used for high speed and extreme temperature applications.
