  • Overview

    The Metal AM team will need a highly skilled part hand finisher. This position will help our growing internal need for the very labor intensive surface finishing and build support removal procedure. An extensive knowledge of hand tools such as grinders, hand drills, cut-off wheels and saws along with safe working practices is a must.  

    Responsibilities


    • Support removal of the metal AM parts with a potential crossover to the Polymer support removal needs.

    • Identifying part defects such as cracks, deformation from thermal stress during the build process as well as missing geometry due to failed supported areas or non-supported down surfaces. Report such defects to management and post on the AMP ticket.

    • Smoothing rough downward facing build surfaces with proper hand tools to the called out Ra spec on the part drawing. This will require the use of a Profilometer and documenting the results.

    • Inspection tool knowledge: Height Gage, scribers, caliper, Micrometer, etc…

    • Maintain Part Finishing inventory.

    • Maintain a clean working environment.

    • Input on improving the part finishing process

    • Communicate with the rest of the team as soon as a potential part defect is identified and post on the AMP ticket.

    • Document every discrepancy per Blues requirements.

    • Ability to cross train into other AM work centers as needed. EDM, 3D scanning, powder removal, tensile turning and ultrasonic cleaning.

    Qualifications


    • An attitude of world-class quality, attention to detail, and dedication

    • Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness from their previous assignments

    • U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information

    • 1-3 years of hands on build experience (spacecraft, airplanes, cars/trucks, boats)

    • Experience operating and fabricating with shop equipment such as mills, lathes, drill press, and band saws.

    Desired


    • Training or experience working with metal additive manufacturing machines

    • Experience with 3-D CAD data – viewing, interrogation and or use for design

    • Experience in an R&D environment, preferably in aerospace, medical devices, or other engineered products

    • Experience cutting, mounting, polishing, and etching metallographic specimens

    • Experience in a small company and/or startup environment
