  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will perform hands-on assembly and maintenance of cutting edge rocket engine turbomachinery. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of Turbopump assembly, disassembly, testing, and tool/fixture design. You will also provide critical feedback to make improvements with respect to process control, capability, and repeatability. We are actively seeking individuals that are driven, passionate about space exploration, and possess a strong desire for continuous learning and improvement. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Precision assembly of rocket engine turbomachinery
    • Detailed component inspection using calipers, micrometers, etc. to tolerances of 0.0001”
    • Calculating dimensional stack-ups to control proper assembly of components
    • Hydroproof testing of components
    • Precision rotor balance
    • Coordinating hardware processing such as inspection, cleaning, and shipping
    • Hardware management under stringent cleanliness requirements (liquid oxygen service)
    • Maintain inventory of tooling and equipment
    • Safely working with hazardous systems, containing chemicals and/or high pressure

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years of experience with assembly of turbomachinery, aircraft engines, or other highly technical machinery
    • Experience in aerospace, aircraft, or related fields
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
    • Ability to read and understand technical manuals/detailed work instructions
    • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand and power tools
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • High attention to detail
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
    • Ability to accurately use precision measurement and inspection tools
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Climb ladders and stairs
    • Lift and carry 50 lbs. for limited durations
    • Work 45 hours or more per week
    • Work schedule may vary and depend on hardware and testing
    • Remain flexible by working overtime and weekends when necessary

    Desired

    • Working knowledge of rocket propellants, cryogenics, RP, and hydrogen peroxide
    • Experience with forklift operation
    • Overhead crane and rigging experience
    • Associates degree
    • Experience with grinding and polishing metals
    • Experience with thread insert installation and thread tapping tools
    • Familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
