  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will unique and highly-skilled team, you’ll manage a team of cross functional technicians who conduct and support testing, development, and work on continuous process improvements for Blue Origin's space launch vehicles and engines.  The focus areas include fluids (pressurized) systems, mechanical systems, and structural (and composites) systems.  For this managerial and hands-on position, we seek people who are passionate about space, about leading people, about laboratory work and that possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


    Personnel and Tasks Management

    • Managing personnel including: recruiting, annual performance reviews, coaching, overseeing work and monitoring labor hours and overtime
    • Promoting and inspiring teamwork and good employee morale
    • Managing resource projections and personnel assignments to meet demanding schedules
    • Providing status updates on developmental and continues improvement work
    • Developing training and ensuring team members’ training records are accurate
    • Creating and maintaining metrics to drive team performance

    High Quality Engineering Work

    • Interfacing with engineers and managers to improve fluids, mechanical, structural labs, reviewing design and test concepts and to support development tests
    • Reviewing, editing, approving, planning and communicating work instructions for complex laboratory or manufacturing processes
    • Performing laboratory tests with the team as needed
    • Summarizing, documenting, and communicating results to stakeholders
    • Developing standard methods, training material, and related documentation for laboratory processes
    • Working with engineers to develop test plans to meet goals
    • Demonstrating strict attention to detail in executing laboratory analyses

    Laboratory Team and Facilities, Strategy and Operations

    • Forecasting capital and operational budget needs
    • Forecasting facilities, space and staffing
    • Creating a strategic plan for the laboratory
    • Maintaining stock of consumable items
    • Performing laboratory administrative tasks
    • Ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained and calibrated
    • Ensuring Job Hazard Analysis are readily available, maintained and used
    • Ensuring proper 5S and FOD controls are in place and adhered to
    • Working safely with hazardous chemicals and high pressure


    • 5+ years’ experience in analytical/characterization laboratory environment
    • Hands-on experience organizing and executing test plans
    • Engineering laboratory skills, including knowledge on equipment and testing
    • Excellent demonstrated written, verbal communication skills and personal computer skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and rapidly changing priorities
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams
    • Ability to document and maintain accurate records and procedures
    • Ability to use standard tools and basic fabrication equipment
    • Familiarity with proper disposal of hazardous waste
    • Attention to detail, passion for space and for success
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum


    • 10+ years’ experience in aerospace or related field
    • Experienced in Project Management with familiarity with Primavera P6 or MS Project
    • Knowledge of drawing and familiarity with inventory and issue tracking systems
