  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will design, develop, fabricate, and activate Electrical-Ground Support Equipment (E-GSE) required for various spaceflight systems.  You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of ground systems design and vehicle operations.  This is a hands-on position focused on E-GSE development, fabrication, checkout, and delivery to vehicle launch and recovery operations.  Major EGSE elements include stage level test equipment (e.g. power supplies, instrumentation, electrical test-sets), and integrated LV test equipment (e.g. hardware emulators, hardware in-the-loop testing), which interface with critical flight hardware to support launch vehicle processing.  This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop EGSE system requirements, including requirements flow-down and verification plans
    • Manage designs, analyses, and development of complex EGSE, harnessing, and test equipment
    • Support trade studies and configuration development efforts
    • Create interface definition and control documents
    • Create drawings, specifications, and other documentation
    • Plan and conduct EGSE activation, verification tests, and data review
    • Identify & design vehicle simulators to test the EGSE before 1st use at the launch site
    • Champion mission assurance principles throughout the organization
    • Maintain and report on scheduled activities, budget, and technical status
    • Coach, mentor, and technically assist other engineers
    • Oversee EGSE procurement and fabrication, including vendor/subcontractor management
    • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering (electrical, software, or avionics)
    • 10+ years’ experience with complex electrical systems design, operation, and maintenance
    • Experience working in small- to medium-sized teams, integrating multiple subsystems to meet a top level system requirement
    • Recent EGSE development or management experience supporting mission critical operations
    • Strong safety mindset, including hands-on experience planning/conducting hazardous or critical operations
    • Strong project management, budget management, and team leadership skills
    • Travel – Coordinating EGSE design activities will require a significant presence in Kent, WA, for appx. 12 months
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)

    Desired

    • Sub-contract and supplier management experience, including requests for proposal, specification development, and statements of work
    • Experience with launch vehicle, aircraft, or spacecraft manufacturing, integration, and testing
    • Skilled in project planning and cost/schedule estimation, including personnel management and mentoring
    • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and assembly processes, and quality control principles
