  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will design, build, integrate, commission and operate the hardware environment we use to verify our rocket engine controllers. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of engine software, controls design, and analysis. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Define a modular, scalable HIL platform that enables rapid software and hardware updates to support engine test
    • Rapidly design and implement HIL systems for new engines
    • Define the architecture for the HIL including the facility requirements, electrical and mechanical interfaces, test plans, concept of operations, layouts, use-cases, regression and verification tests
    • Participate in the development and presentation of material for gated design reviews, test readiness reviews, and verification reviews
    • Design, develop, and execute multi-domain integrated system tests in the HIL to support flight software and hardware qualification and operator training
    • Support the integration of flight avionics hardware, EGSE, ground consoles, simulations and analysis tooling necessary to verify the requirements and performance of avionics units under test
    • Participate in all aspects of integrated hardware/software system verification and validation including test planning, test execution, troubleshooting, issue resolution, documentation of test results, and data reviews
    • Develop and maintain a Technical Performance Measurement (TPM) system for the HIL labs to evaluate system performance and guide continuous improvement
    • Mentor other engineers in the areas of real-time test, simulation, and verification
    • Participate in cross-functional teams and support the development and modifications of models for real-time execution including cross validation

    Qualifications

    • B.S. degree or higher in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related discipline
    • 3+ year of relevant experience
    • Demonstrated history of integrating software and hardware systems
    • Solid electrical engineering, digital and analog circuit fundamentals and lab skills
    • Proficient in the use of standard electronic lab test and troubleshooting equipment
    • Digital and analog circuit design, simulation, assembly, and test, with knowledge of design principles for non-laboratory environments
    • Preference for and ability to thrive as a member of a tightly integrated team
    • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)

    Desired

    • Experience working in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system integration labs (SIL)
    • Experience in analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components and design, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout and grounding principles
    • Applied experience with hard real-time operating systems and embedded systems
    • Broad understanding of instrumentation, interfaces and sensors including DMMs, DAQ, Power Supplies, Oscilloscopes, DIO, GPIB, Serial-422, UDP, GigE, SPI, switch technologies and topologies, accelerometers, RTDs, thermocouples, and 4-20mA sensors
    • Understanding of metrology, sources of measurement error, and uncertainty analysis
    • Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop environments outside of aerospace (automotive, robotics, medical)
    • Experience anchoring/fitting first principles models to test data or high-fidelity external simulations using system identification or other numerical methods
