  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for creating and improving design processes for various spaceflight systems.  You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of design associated with enterprise design standards, best practices and tools.  This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


    • Identify, develop, and mature new design processes and technology in support of all business units.
    • Capture, communicate, and implement design lessons learned and best practices.
    • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers.
    • Identify, establish and provide the necessary tools, training, and strategic processes to enable high quality, efficient, design and development across the company.
    • Develop and maintain a disciplined vision towards continuous improvement in all aspects of design and development.


    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace.
    • 5+ years of engineering experience in one of the following disciplines; structures, mechanical systems, or fluid systems.
    • Track record of proven process improvements (e.g., trade studies, process mapping, DMAIC, value stream mapping) and understanding of change management.
    • Mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software (PTC Creo preferred).
    • Experience using enterprise PLM solutions (PTC Windchill preferred).
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder).


    • Aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures experience.
    • Experience defining system requirements.
    • Experience maintaining, reporting on activity schedule, budget, and technical status.
    • Experience creating engineering documents including drawings and specifications.
    • Experience identifying opportunities for safety improvements, weight and operational cost savings.
    • Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001.
    • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5, Y14.100 and Y14.41.
    • Working knowledge of FEA analysis tools (ANSYS and/or Hyperworks, preferred).
    • Working knowledge of top-down, skeleton modeling techniques.
    • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, and characterization & allowables development.
