  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will specify, develop and qualify laser processes (welding, cutting and cladding) to Blue Origin’s strict aerospace specifications.  You will work with engineers and laser system operators in the manufacturing area to build our propulsion systems, for various spaceflight systems. We seek people who are passionate about space and possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. 

     

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, qualify, test and evaluate laser processing parameters
    • Review NDT results from processed hardware and disposition nonconformance’s
    • Conceive-of, develop and implement in-process inspection technologies
    • Participate in the specification for new systems
    • Troubleshoot and operate equipment, as required
    • Travel required for training and other support activities
    • Perform metallographic and mechanical testing of welds and weld samples
    • Support design engineers with laser processing and material properties
    • Day-to-day support of laser processing area

    Qualifications

    • B.S. degree or higher in materials, welding engineering or relevant field
    • Thorough understanding of laser welding processes and material selection
    • Experience evaluating materials characterization data or NDT results
    • Hands-on experience with metallographic analysis and mechanical testing of welds
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)
    • Hands-on machining/welding experience
    • General proficiency with CAD

     

    Desired

     

    • 2+ years’ experience in laser welding/cladding
    • Experience with integration/configuration of ancillary support equipment to existing systems (mechanical/electrical)
    • Programming/operation of CNC/Robotic systems
