  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will take responsibility for all aspects of the environmental, health, and safety of Blue Origin’s people and facilities for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of improving of a safety culture and building agile safety processes. You must have a passion for solving complex problems, providing operable solutions, and you must be capable of acting with minimal direction on your own initiative. You will be responsible for helping to maintain a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in the development of site specific environmental policies and procedures
    • Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including Department of Transportation (DOT) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), conducting inspections, and maintaining records
    • Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits
    • Enforce Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures (SPCC) plan and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan as required
    • Help with environmental reporting requirements as directed
    • Assist in the creation of job hazard analysis and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments
    • Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards
    • Conduct and/or coordinate employee safety and environmental training programs and assist with emergency response training drills & support the site Emergency Response Team 
    • Support EHS related launch operations activities as required

    Qualifications

    • Experience in environmental regulation with an emphasis in Texas Environmental laws with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Texas Rail Road Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, Radiation Control Program

    • 3 or more years of experience in health and safety disciplines; Aerospace experience is preferred

    • Knowledge of specific Federal and State safety, health & environmental laws and regulations
    • Experience in hazardous waste management
    • Experience in hazardous waste management, soil and water sampling & agency communication

    • Experience with emergency response team efforts

    • Experience with working with safety committee

    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)

    Desired

    • Associates degree or 5 years of experience in environmental regulation with an emphasis in Texas Environmental laws with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Texas Rail Road Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, Radiation Control Program

    • General knowledge in interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local safety, transportation and environmental regulations

    • General knowledge in environmental hazards, environmental compliance and industrial hygiene

    • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Intermediate

    • Experience working in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain

    • Familiarity with exposure to fumes, odors, and noise

    • Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds. Must be able to physically climb multiple flights stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather conditions
