  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate, accomplished and rapidly evolving team, you will be responsible for working closely with engineering design and company leadership to support all manufacturing efforts and equipment related to building human rated orbital launch vehicles. This includes simultaneously defining the build process and handling equipment, planning and executing the manufacturing and assembly work that is performed on a launch vehicle module, as well as delivery and commissioning of the various sub-systems in support of programmatic budgets and schedules. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate the manufacturing of a launch vehicle module, including structural, pneumatic, cryogenic, hydraulic and electrical systems integration
    • Provide design for manufacturability review of vehicle designs, and make recommendations to improve quality, simplify operations and reduce cost
    • Develop overall assembly sequencing for vehicle assembly and make real-time adjustments as needed to deal with production and design inputs
    • Develop tooling concepts for assembly and handling fixtures, procure and commission this equipment
    • Layout and populate your assigned work center with equipment required to produce human capable launch vehicles
    • Develop and maintain assembly and build schedules
    • Identify and develop process controls on critical manufacturing characteristics
    • Support/develop cost estimates for hardware, processes and organizations
    • Interpret design engineering documents into work orders that direct touch labor on the vehicle integration floor
    • Maintain documentation pedigree to support human capable flight
    • Take ownership over configuration management of flight inventory
    • Support hardware integration on the floor and troubleshoot issues as they arise throughout the day
    • Develop the internal specifications required to support the manufacture of human capable flight vehicles
    • Develop and implement preventive actions related to discrepancies
    • Take ownership of product quality, establishing procedures and processes to support continuous improvement
    • Use of process mapping, Kaizen, and other tools to dramatically reduce cycle time, defects and waste

    Qualifications

    • B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering or other relevant field
    • Proven experience and successful track record leading teams in a matrix organization
    • Proven experience with large scale assemblies and integration
    • Strong written, personal, and computer skills. Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at the executive leadership level and on the shop floor
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    Desired

    • Experience working in a product design or manufacturing environment.
    • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma processes and implementation
    • Aerospace/Launch vehicle experience.
    • Experience with Aluminum Cryo Tanks
    • Experience with safety critical systems.
