  • Overview

    As a part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for developing vehicle processing and launch operations equipment with an emphasis on ease of implementation, sustainment and maintainability of vehicles for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of ground support equipment providing the primary structural and mechanical systems interface between the development, manufacturing and launch operations teams. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Conceptual design of support equipment for launch support systems and interfaces
    • Detail design of structural and mechanical installation and support equipment
    • Vendor selection and management
    • Develop and manage systems interfaces
    • Support development of concepts of operations and operability trades
    • Oversee equipment fabrication, assembly and installation
    • Provide technical guidance for hardware installation
    • Active involvement in functional checkouts and commissioning of equipment
    • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status
    • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
    • Identify opportunities for operational cost savings
    • This position will be located in Kent, WA with the intent of transferring to our Orbital Launch Site in Cape Canaveral, FL

    Qualifications

    • B.S. degree in engineering with a background in aerospace/aeronautical vehicle ground support equipment development, maintenance, and commissioning
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)
    • Experience with design, build and commissioning of ground support equipment for the handling, shipping and transporting of aerospace vehicles and components
    • Experience managing contractors during design, procurement and build cycles of tooling and related components
    • Experience in selection and implementation of tools and equipment to provide access, ease of maintenance/refurbishment and other similar tasks with the goal of quick and efficient turnaround operations 
    • Experience developing procedures for testing, checkout, commissioning and maintenance of equipment/tooling
    • Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software (ProE and ANSYS preferred)  
    • Familiar with applicable ASME standards, such as ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41
    • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software

    Desired

    • Experience in Automation and Controls in relation to mobile tooling.
    • Experience in HMI design and configuration of different types of tooling interfaces.
    • Experience in tool design, jigs and similar hardware for manufacturing and test  
    • Experience in tool design, jigs and similar hardware for composite structural assembly
    • Experience with PTC Creo / Windchill
    • Experience with aircraft, launch vehicle or spacecraft jigs & fixturing
