  • Overview

    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will own the design, development, and verification test of high-performance communications systems for various flight vehicles.  You will share in the team’s impact with your:

    • Background in communication systems design and development
    • Familiarity with currently available commercial / aviation grade communications equipment
    • Proficiency with system-level communication engineering analyses including link budgets and supporting performance analyses
    • Experience in architecting, developing and testing communications hardware
    • Ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in a fast paced, hands-on, team environment
    • Ability to manage project schedule, resources, and cost

    This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead a multi-disciplinary team in architecting communications system solutions using a mixture of custom and COTS hardware; design, integrate, and test flight hardware assemblies for functionality / robustness against requirements
    • Requirements development and allocation, performance modeling and simulation, component / algorithm selection and design, acceptance and qualification test planning and execution, and status reporting
    • Serve as the technical focal for the communications system during test and flight operations; participate in operations, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and post-test data analysis of communications systems
    • Conduct architecture and design, performance, risk, safety, operation and cost optimization trade studies, and lead / conduct design reviews for communications systems

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in an applicable field (electrical engineering, physics, etc.)
    • 7+ years of experience in leading teams in the design, development, test and operation of complex RF communication systems (preferably SatCom systems)
    • Communications waveform design, modeling, simulation and verification experience
    • Familiarity with antenna, RF and mixed signal design & analysis
    • Hands-on experience and proficiency in comms system troubleshooting including experience with lab test equipment (signal generator, spectrum analyzer, high speed scopes, vector signal analyzers, etc.)
    • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the communication systems product lifecycle
    • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems.
    • Experience with data analysis, programming and scripting (Matlab, C/C++, Python, etc.)
    • Experience in project planning and successful execution of projects to cost and schedule targets
    • High level of attention to detail and task ownership
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)

    Desired

    • Master of Science or higher degree in an applicable field (electrical engineering, physics, etc.)
    • Knowledge of system modeling tools (STK)
    • Digital and analog circuit and filter design, simulation, assembly, and test experience
    • Intimacy in communications systems algorithm design including modulation, pulse shaping, frequency/phase/timing recovery loops, and channel coding
    • Familiarity with Information Assurance architectures and implementation
    • Experience with launch vehicle communication systems hardware development, integration, and test
    • Design of complex communications systems for space and ground environments
    • Design of hardware for radiation environments
