    As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will run the training program for flight controllers and train to become a flight controller. Over the next year New Shepard Launch Operations will transition from a development and test operation to a sustaining commercial operation, and you will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of reusable launch operations. This job combines responsibilities for the launch crew training program with operation of the rocket as a flight controller. As Training Coordinator you will coordinate and implement a training and evaluation program for all Launch Crew personnel, and ensure your training program meets Blue Origin training standards. The training program must ensure consistent, repeatable, and reliable crew operations. Additionally you will experience the training program first hand as you train to become a certified Flight Controller. When qualified you will sit on console to operate the integrated propellant loading system, perform all pre-flight checks, and launch the rocket. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. This job is based in Kent with frequent travel to the launch site in Texas.


    As Training Coordinator

    • Author the overall training plan for launch operations personnel
    • Ensure crew certification is fully documented.
    • Work with existing launch crew to write qualification standards and qualification cards for each launch crew position
    • Write certification exams as required
    • Communicate new training plan to the team
    • Work with the Flight Ops Functional team to ensure your training program meets internal company standards
    • Track launch crew qualifications and proficiency, and maintain training records
    • Work with simulation engineers to upgrade existing controller simulation capabilities for flight controller, capsule controller, and ground controller
    • Create and implement simulation drills to test and train the launch crew in the handling of anomalies
    • Ensure Launch Crew assigned to a specific mission are fully qualified

    As Flight Controller

    • Develop proficiency in operating a complex mechanical and fluid system
    • Simultaneously load propellants and pressurant into the rocket on launch day
    • Update and improve launch procedures
    • Conduct pre-launch checks and perform terminal count procedure to launch the rocket
    • Respond to abort and recycle scenarios, taking appropriate actions to maintain crew and astronaut safety


    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering
    • Previous responsibility for and experience with operations crew training and qualification.
    • Previous experience as a controller or pilot, including time on console and familiarity with radio communication protocols in high stress time critical operations.
    • Experience maintaining or operating rockets or complex vehicle systems including hydraulics, power and high pressure pneumatics
    • Ability to operate under the stress of a countdown clock and make correct time critical decisions and recommendations while communicating with field and support personnel on multiple radio channels.
    • Self starter with strong coordination and project management skills. Must be able to initiate, track, manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks and jobs.
    • Excellent computer skills with the ability to use a variety of management and planning software tools, including the ability to rapidly learn apply new software tools as required.
    • A proven track record of working successfully with a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
    • Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships within the organization and across multiple groups.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)


    • Previous experience as a crew trainer and evaluator, creating and implementing a training program
    • Creation and operation of an operations simulation environment, including inserting anomalies and drills and evaluating crew response.
    • Experience operating safety critical high energy systems
    • Experience developing, writing or updating training plans
